The surroundings

La maison de Bellerive is situated on the edge of the village of Le Buisson (municipality Le Buisson-de-Cadouin), in the middle of the so-called 'golden triangle', Bergerac - Sarlat - Périgeux. We are always amazed at how much there is to do within a radius of 10-30 minutes drive.

What activities are available int the area?

Beautiful towns and villages
Limeuil (8 min drive), Belvès (12 min), Domme (38 min) all with the predicate Les plus beaux villages de France. Monpazier is the most beautiful fortified town in the Périgord. Saint Cyprien (15 min), a medieval town at the foot of the Dordogne with a pleasant square with a fountain. The church and abbey of Cadouin (10 min) are on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Bergerac (35 min): visit the best patisserie Francois in the center. Sarlat is one of the most beautiful medieval towns in the Dordogne where many tourists come. Périgeux also has an old city center with a large museum.

Dining out depends on personal preferences and budget. We will offer you a number of suggestions on the spot.

Castles

The Dordogne is also called the valley of a thousand and one castles. To name a few: Castelnaud Castle and Beynac Castle.


Prehistoric caves
In Le Buisson we have the Grotte de Maxange, a little further le Gouffre de Proumeyssac (13 min drive) and at a 50 min drive the famous prehistoric caves of Lascaux in Montignac. Every Wednesday you can stroll through the streets of Beaumont-du-Périgord.


Concerts

In the summer there are various concerts and music festivals. For example, Molières has an annual outdoor jazz concert in an atmospheric ambiance. And Belvès organized a Bach festival in 2024.


Canoeing and kayaking
Canoeing and kayaking is possible on the Dordogne and the Vézère river (flows past nearby Le Bugue and further into the Dordogne). There is enough space to bring your own kayaks. In consultation, Enton can drive you to the start or pick you up at the finish location for a fee.


Swimming

Unfortunately it is too steep to enter the river directly from the garden, but the path next to the house takes you to a concrete staircase in a few minutes. There you can step into the fresh clear water of the Dordogne river to cool off. At the Pont Vique beach in Le Buisson and at Limeuil you can sunbathe the old-fashioned way, on the grass and easily walk into the river. In nearby Belvès there is a municipal swimming pool. Please note: In France you are not allowed in with boxer shorts. Trémolat has the Bassin Nautique where it is even possible to water ski. Just past Le Bugue towards Perigeux is a water fun park, this is one of the attractions of Jacquoupark.


Hiking and cycling

There are various walks possible in the area, for example around Le Bugue, along the river Vezere, at Saint Cyprien and Molieres. We are still exploring it all out ourselves. From Bergerac to Rocamadour there is a 180 km long distance walk via Cadouin above Le Buisson and Belvès.

From the house you can cycle through the countryside to the bridge (Pont Vique) for a beautiful trip towards Coux-et-Bigaroque.


Amusement park

Past Le Bugue towards Perigeux is Jacquoupark with 22 attractions including a water park and climbing park. Theme park du Bournat in Le Bugue (15 min)


Golfing

The nearest golf course is Lolivarie in Saint Germain de Belvès and La Marterie in Saint Felix de Reillac.
